Almost a year ago my boyfriend and I decided that we wanted to celebrate our 6 month anniversary by going out to dinner and then watch a musical. We decided on We will rock you and I was not disappointed. Kjell Steinar had already seen it and knew it was good and of course I trust his judgement. It was the perfect night with the perfect man and the perfect musical.
We will rock you is based on the songs by Queen and it is named after their hit single of the same name. The musical opened at the Dominion Theatre in 2002 and immediately became an audience favourite. The closest London Underground station is Tottenham Court Road on the Northern and Central line and you can’t miss it.
The story is set in a dystopian future where musical instruments are banned and the age of boy and girl bands are the only thing that matter. Nothing will change as long as Killer Queen is in charge. That is, unless you are a rebel. Resistance is growing and the Bohemians are trying to change the world they are living in. They are looking for a hero who can change everything, and they are wondering whether the guy who calls himself Galileo is the man for the job.
The songs in this musical are simply extraordinary. Radio GaGa, I want it all, I want to break free, crazy little thing called love, another one bites the dust and we are the champions are only a few of the classics in this musical and the dancing is amazing. The costumes and the actors are truly phenomenon and you can’t help but to sing along with the cast. It is completely understandable why 620 000 tickets are sold every year.
I absolutely loved this musical, it was breathtaking. The songs by Queen will live forever and this musical is a fantastic dedication to this legendary band. This musical has everything: love, rock, humour, great dancing and singing and a remarkable cast. I believe this is one of the best musicals I have ever seen and it really did have a certain magic. I would absolutely recommend this musical if you’re ever in London and I promise you will have a good time. Even my brother who is 10 years old loved it and could not stop singing we will rock you for days after he had seen this.
