Skremmende vinterføre

Det var meget skremmende å lese Adresseavisen på nett i dag, for det meste som det sto om var biler som har kjørt av veien grunnet farlig vinterføre. Det er virkelig ikke tvil om at november har tatt både Trondheim og Norge med en is storm.

Folk må skjønne at det er vinterføre, Uskadd fra kollisjon og Tre sperret veien er bare noen få av overskriftene som var å finne på nettavisen i dag. Ifølge den ene artikkelen står det at det har vært mye pågang til politiet, der temaet for telefonen er stort sett vær og føre. Folk må bare være ekstra forsiktig når de er ute og kjører for tiden, og uansett hvor sakte det går bør man smøre seg med tålmodighet. Heller kom ti minutter for sent enn aldri.

I London blir det totalt kaos bare det er 1 centimeter med snø, men i Norge har vi mer kunnskap med hva som må gjøres når været er slik som det er nå. Bare det å ha på vinterdekk kan være til stor hjelp og det er selvfølgelig også kjørekunnskap og erfaring. Vi unge bør høre på de som har flere års erfaring med slikt føre, og kanskje heller gå eller ta buss om vi føler oss usikre i trafikken. Det er i alle fall noe jeg alltid har blitt fortalt av mine foreldre.

Jeg håper alle er forsiktige der hjemme og at folk tar seg av hverandre. For selv om det kanskje ikke virker så skummelt akkurat der og da, så er det skummelt å sitte her og lese om hvordan det er i Trondheim. For er det noe vi ikke skal spøke med så er det været, det er ustabilt og vi vet aldri helt sikkert hvor vi har det.

Thriller Live is not exactly a musical, but a tribute show to the fans of the wonder that was Michael Jackson. You get to hear all of the famous songs, from when Michael Jackson was singing in the Jackson 5 and all of his solo hits. This show will take your breath away with its magic.

I am a huge musical fan, but a live concert of Michael Jackson’s music is actually the best I have ever seen. A show celebrating the life and career of this amazing man really could not have been any better. You can really understand why he was the King of Pop.

Thriller Live opened in January 2009 at Lyric Theatre here in London. It was only meant to run for a few months but because it was so popular it kept on running. And I am so glad it did, because I wouldn’t want to miss this for the world.

The show starts with Michael Jackson as a kid in Jackson 5, where we hear the songs ABC and I want you back and they are sung by a kid that has the most amazing voice I have ever heard in someone so young. In my opinion that was the best part of the first half in this concert.

There are four lead vocalists in this show, and they are all extremely talented. They bring new life to Michael Jackson’s songs, and they all have a special gift when it comes to this. They were changing who was singing, and in the second half of the show all of Michael’s hits came one after the other. It was the best show I have ever seen, and no one was sitting still as Smooth Criminal was playing. It was like seeing the music video, only on stage. Everything was spectacular, especially the dancing. It was like seeing Michael Jackson and the guy who was dancing his part clearly had studied his idol’s dance moves as it was flawless down to the very last detail. But next to this song they were also dancing and singing to Beat it, Dirty Diana, Billie Jean, Thriller, Man in the mirror and so many more. The second half of the show was clearly the best and you sit there wishing that they’d never be finished.

If you are a fan of Michael Jackson and his songs, then this is the perfect show for you. In my opinion it is the best show I have seen, and I find that there are no words to say how admirable it really was. To think that they were four lead singers doing what only one person used to do on stage truly is remarkable, and that is saying a lot about the performer Michael Jackson was.

A woman's right to shoes

I have always been interested in shoes, and that has also been my greatest weakness for so many years. I have to admit that it is torture to walk in a shoe store and not buy any shoes, because I almost always seem to find something that catches my eye. So that is why I about a year ago decided to only buy shoes I fall in love with, and buy shoes with good quality that last longer. I have actually saved money by doing this, but in return I fall in love with shoes that are a bit expensive. Being a student means limited with money, but you can dream about your perfect shoes. I have made a top 5 list of shoes I really want, but that I can’t really afford at the moment. But I promise that some day I will buy these shoes, because for me it really is true love. 

 I have wanted Manolo Blahnik Mary Jane shoes for who knows how long. What is so great about these shoes is that they go with anything, casual or dressed up. And I happen to know for a fact that Manolo Blahnik shoes are very comfortable to wear, so even though they are expensive I believe they are worth it. Because Mr. Blahnik knows how to make shoes for the female foot.

I happen to be a fan of the brand Burberry, and of course I have found a pair of shoes I really want. Like the Mary Jane shoes they go with anything, and the heel is not too high so I believe that you can wear them for quite some time without pain. I even have the perfect outfit for these shoes.

 When I first saw these Dorothy Perkins Ribbon Tie shoes it really was love at first sight. These were actually not that expensive, but so far I haven’t found any shop that has my size. I guess that’s what it is like to be cursed with small feet, but hopefully one day I will find them. Because I can’t seem to get them out of my mind.

 

I actually just opened my eyes to Christian Louboutin, and I have to say that he has a lot of beautiful shoes. These shoes will be great on a night out with the girls, either dancing or for a drink. Or if you have a date they are a must.

 

 One of my flatmates, Alicia, showed me a website the other day, called Modatoi, where they have some very nice shoes. Of course, me being me, I found a pair and fell in love. Again. I have been looking for a pair of really nice purple sandals, and these just screamed my name. They are not expensive at all, so I might just buy myself a Christmas present soon.

To my beloved

Today Kjell Steinar and I have been together for 14 months, so I want to dedicate this contribution to him.

For the past 14 months you have always been there for me, even though we were so far apart from each other for so many months. When we first met I would never have guessed that we would end up together, because I lived in London and you were moving to Bodø. Our lives and worlds could not seem further apart, but you touched something inside of me that made me not wanting to let you go. I have never met anyone like you, and I wake up everyday with a smile on my face knowing that you are a big part of my life.

We have experienced a lot over these months, and I am grateful for every minute of them. You have taught me so much and shown me what it is like to be a part of your life and your world, and I am loving all of it. A day without you seems like forever, and I should know considering we have been too much apart from each other. But then again, because of that I appreciate every minute I am spending with you, and I am looking forward to what the future has for us. Because if there is one thing I am certain of, that is that I want to be a part of your life. I love you, Kjell Steinar, don’t you ever forget that.

Los Angeles – the City of Angels

As you probably know I was on Los Angeles with three amazing people this summer. I’ve written about a few things that we did, Universal Studios, Celebrity Tour and Disney Land, so I thought it was about time to write about the actual city. Because I have never been in a city like Los Angeles.

Kjell Steinar, Johanne, Joachim and I were in America for three weeks where we were driving around, and LA was our first stop, and also where we all met after Johanne and I had spent four weeks in Asia and Oceania. You can only imagine how happy we were to finally see each other again, and the hours slowly went by as Johanne and I were waiting at our hotel for the guys.

We stayed at the Historic Mayfair Hotel, which is downtown LA, 1256 West 7^th Street. I have to admit that when we first got there we thought that it was quite a dodgy area, but it later turned out that we lived just a few blocks away from the prestigious Financial District, Walt Disney Concert Hall and Union Station. On our first day we just walked in the wrong direction, so it is important to get to know the area you are living in. 

Public transportation is not very good in LA, especially not the buses. But I was actually surprised when it came to the underground. It took us to the places that we wanted, such as Universal Studios and the Walk of Fame. And I have to say, the Walk of Fame was amazing, I really loved it. We were just walking around, we didn’t know where to look for the most famous names, but they are all pretty much around the Chinese Theatre. On the forecourt of the theatre you will find one of the most distinctive features in this area, which is the concrete blocks which bear the signatures, footprints and handprints of popular motion picture personalities. The Harry Potter stars, Will Smith, Fred Astaire and Johnny Depp are just to mention a few.

 

Michal Jackson’s star was a very popular one, and it was hard to get a good photo of it. As I was one of the many people standing there, I can totally understand why people would want a photo of this famous star. And I have to say that I was so happy when we walked past the star of Johnny Depp, who has been one of my favourite actors for years. But my absolute favourite star is the one that Kjell Steinar and I got. Yes, we actually got our very own star at Hollywood Boulevard on the Walk of Fame.

The Chinese Theatre

The Chinese Theatre is located at Hollywood Boulevard, and this is also where Kjell Steinar and I started our Celebrity Tour. And next to the theatre you’ll find Madame Tussauds, and Kjell Steinar and I were so lucky as to get free tickets to this attraction because we went on the celebrity tour. I actually thought it was pretty good, because there were several floors where the mannequins were spread our so you could actually take pictures with them. Also on Hollywood Boulevard you will find the famous Hard Rock Café and Hooters. There are also many shopping possibilities in this area.

One of our days in this amazing city, Kjell Steinar and I thought we’d walk to the Beverly Centre, which is a big shopping centre. I had found a pair of shoes on Hollywood Boulevard that I really wanted but they didn’t have my size, but I was told that they did have it at the Beverly Centre. By looking at a map it didn’t look like it was going to be that long a walk, but after about 45 minutes we were actually not even half way there. Los Angeles is a big city, it really is hopeless to try to walk anywhere because of the size of the city. We learned that the hard way. In the end I got my shoes, but we then took the bus.

Remember Baywatch?

A walk along Venice Beach was quite romantic, and if you follow the beach you will eventually end up at Santa Monica Pier. It was not a short walk, but a very nice one. We were told by our taxi driver that it is not safe to stay at Venice Beach after dark, so we really didn’t have a choice but to start walking. It all reminded me of Baywatch, and I almost expected to see Mitch Buchannon running into the water to rescue a gorgeous woman. Santa Monica is actually the end of the famous Route 66, so we even got to see that.

Los Angeles truly was amazing, and we got to see and experience so much. It was the perfect start of our three weeks in America, and writing about it now and looking back it truly was spectacular.

GBK – the greatest burger restaurant in London

If you like great burgers and you’re tired of McDonalds and Burger King, you should definitely try Gourmet Burger Kitchen, also known as GBK. I believe they have the best burgers I have ever had.

During our first year at university here in London, my friend Johanne took me to this amazing restaurant where she said that they truly had the best burgers. Of course I believed her, and since then GBK has become one of my favourite restaurants here in London. Today actually, Kjell Steinar and I had a double date with Johanne and Joachim at GBK, and of course we had such a great time.

My personal favourite is the Avocado Bacon burger, it is to die for, and the perfect side order is their chunky GBK fries with homemade garlic mayo dipping sauce. I’m almost getting hungry again just writing about it. On some of the burgers you can choose between two sizes, and they all come with salad and mayo and anything extra that is on your chosen burger. Trust me, it is so good it is difficult to stop eating even though you’re getting full.

GBK has more than burgers; they also have a few salads, chicken burgers, vegetarian options and even something for the kids. So it is the perfect place to bring the family, your friends or your date, you are guaranteed a great evening with superb food. Because GBK is more than just a great burger.

Time is flying by

I cannot believe it is already November. Time sure is flying by, and I’m powerless to stop it. It is so much that is going on and more will happen out the year, the question is how do we have time for everything?

This weekend we had daylight saving time, also known as the clock being set back one hour. So on Sunday we had one more hour in bed, one more hour for school work and one more hour to just relax. It was rather strange to go out for a walk yesterday and see how quickly the darkness came upon us, and it really hit me; it’s fall now.

The student life is very busy during fall and the time before Christmas. Essays to write and hand in, books to read, research, work and so on, and I guess we all are simply too busy to stop and appreciate what is happening around us. Fall is actually a very beautiful season with leafs changing into dazzling colours, but it is also associated with melancholy. The possibility of summer is gone, and the chill of winter is on the horizon. We can feel it in the air, and an extra blanket on our bed can be essential.

Even though the sky is turning grey and most of us are sitting inside in front of a lap top trying to make a deadline, we have something to look forward to. When fall comes, so does all the advertisement for Christmas. Here in London Oxford Street has been decorated, and in many stores around you will find Christmas ornaments and so much more. Christmas is the perfect excuse for a break in all of the studying, as it is so nice to go Christmas shopping and just glance at all the beautiful decorations. Although it is quite early to have the Christmas feeling, at least you have something to look forward to, and autumn may not seem so dark.

So I wish everyone a happy November, and good luck with all of your work. Doesn’t matter if its university essays or work from your employer, we all have a lot to do these days. Just don’t forget to take a look at the light outside, it is truly sparkling with beautiful colours, hopes and dreams.
